Before starting any renovation, no matter the size, every detail should be thoughtfully selected, planned, and budgeted before the first worker arrives at your door. This step is key.
Next up: invest wisely in quality materials and budget for them upfront. Think about what you use most in your home. People tend to overlook cabinets and flooring, but they handle the real wear and tear of daily living. Since they experience the most wear and tear, and choosing lower-quality materials will show sooner than you think!
We believe in a high–low approach to material selection. Not everything needs to be high-end, but investing in quality materials where they get the most use and make the biggest design impact is essential. Of course, even the best materials are only as good as the hands installing them. You’ve heard the saying, “You get what you pay for,” and it couldn’t be more true. A high-end product installed by the cheapest installer can, and will, still look cheap. Before you renovate, prioritize your investment in the right places.
Lastly, don’t forget the furnishings. Furnishings, rugs, and drapery are what truly make a house feel complete. Not considering furniture layout early in the process can negatively impact both flow and function. Furniture layout belongs in the design process, not after plans are complete.
